In my entire life, I have never seen this bug. That was until an unseasonably warm night about two weeks ago. My mom and I were leaving my aunts house and as we were walking down her steps, my mom noticed this huge bug laying there. I'd guess it was almost 2 inches long. I'm not sure that I've ever seen one but it must be some sort of beetle. I don't want to hold it in my hand! lol

I'm nearly positive that what's called a Giant Water Bug. They do fly and occasionally move from pond to pond. I've heard they can bite, too!
Yes, it's a Belostomatid - giant water bug. They do fly, and are amazing predators. They inject an enzyme into the prey, which dissolves the tissues so that they can slurp it up.
